RISK FACTORS FOR GASTROINTESTINAL FOREIGN BODIES IN CATS: A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY IN EGYPT

Gastrointestinal foreign body (FB) obstruction in felines is one of the emergencies and commonly required surgical interventions. The purpose this study was therefore to investigate risk factors that could prone cats ingest FB. This retrospectively conducted on sixty-five had been diagnosed with FB obstruction. On other hand, no clinical findings suggestive gastrointestinal illnesses were used as controls. Among illnesses, we found 9.97% obstructions. most common presenting breeds both cat patients controls Persian Siamese. Similarly, presented normal diseased males. Cats younger (p<0.05) than those control cats. There significant difference weight for versus investigated factors, also observed living style, anxiety/stress, frequency exercise only strongly associated occurrence In conclusion, observations indicate a have impact behavior should be seen by cat-owned clients important prevent pica.
